Pictures that go around the world August 17, 2018 – Posted in: Blog, Thomas Billhardt Videos
Chemnitz – Moving, touching and, above all, in the midst of life are the unique photographs of the well-known photographer Thomas Billhardt.
Especially his pictures from war zones and slums are to the heart, because the focus is on the fates of the people. Many people probably know his early photographs of Alexanderplatz or the emotional images from Vietnam. What many do not know for sure is that Thomas Billhardt comes from Chemnitz, although he is at home almost everywhere in the world. In doing so, he has always remained faithful to his line and is still suffering in the world today to make it accessible to outsiders.
His photos go around the world and touch people because of their expressiveness. For although he became known primarily as a war photographer, his photographs still have an aesthetic claim. He is not just about satisfying the sensationalism, but to look behind the scenes, to focus on those affected.
He shot hundreds of thousands of shots in his now-since-50s career. Some of his greatest photographs will be on display in the Industrial Museum on Friday, August 17. But not only photos by Thomas Billhardt can be seen in the special exhibition titled “FOCUSSED.” Because his family has produced more than just a renowned photographer.
Not only famous personalities and war photographs can be discovered, but also numerous portraits as well as advertising photographs and conceptual images of the entire photographers family.
The special exhibition will be on display at the Industriemuseum until 2 December.
